Renovations

We tackle renovations and alterations at any scale, whether the brief is to match the existing house or to contrast it with something completely modern. Internal demolition and moving walls around is not a problem; careful deconstruction is one of the things our trades specialise in.

From full architecturally designed alterations and additions through to bathroom or kitchen remodelling, we are used to solving the problems that surface once an older house is opened up. We work with you through every step, from initial design to completion.

Extensions

We specialise in low volume, high quality home extensions to contemporary and classic homes, including ground floor and second storey additions.

We deliberately limit the number of building projects we run at any one time, so you are always dealing directly with the people responsible for your project rather than a site manager you have never met.

Classic & Heritage Restoration

Restoring original Adelaide period homes is work we take real pride in — sourcing comparable materials and using tradespeople who specialise in buildings of significance.

These houses need a fine eye for detail. Where an extension is part of the brief, we either carry existing features from the original home through into the new work, or deliberately set a modern addition against it, depending on which the house can carry.

What This Usually Involves

Design and documentation

Concepts, working drawings and council-ready documentation, coordinated with structural and energy consultants where the scope needs it.

Approvals

Major structural changes generally need development approval. We prepare the drawings and reports, lodge the application and liaise with council or a private certifier on your behalf.

Construction

If you want it, the team that designed the work can build it, under one contract. We provide written progress reports at the end of each fortnight during construction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need council approval to renovate?

Usually yes, if the work is structural. Some projects can proceed under existing-use rights. We identify which applies early, so the approval path is settled before documentation starts.

Can you match an extension to an older house?

Yes. That is a large part of what we do — either matching original proportions, materials and detailing, or setting a deliberately contemporary addition against them.

Do you have to build what you design?

No. Design-only is welcome, and plenty of our clients take our drawings to their own builder. The construction side is an option, not a condition.

How disruptive is a renovation?

It depends on scope. Where you are living in the house through the work, we stage it and sequence trades around that. It is worth raising at the first consultation so it shapes the design.
